amulet

Talisman incised with a goddess, probably Hathor, holding the 'ankh' sign of life.  Peridot, which was used for inlays and jewellery, was mined at Zeberget and this talisman probably belonged to a miner. The sacred cowhorns of the goddess's headdress have been misunderstood by the carver and turned into the hieroglyph 'Neb'. Country of Origin: Egypt. Culture: Ancient Egyptian. Date/Period: 18th dynasty, 1550-1295 BC. Place of Origin: Zeberget, Sinai. Material Size: hardstone (peridot). Credit Line: Werner Forman Archive/Private Collection . Location: 37.
