Glass fragments

Glass fragments. These tiny fragments, possibly inlays from shrines and furniture, were made from polychrome glass canes laid side by side to create a picture.The rods were fused, left to cool, stretched to miniaturise, then sliced to form each piece. Country of Origin: Egypt. Culture: Ancient Egyptian. Date/Period: 3rd-1st C BC. Graeco-Roman period. Place of Origin: Alexandria. Credit Line: Werner Forman Archive/ Sold at Christie's.
