Papyrus Leopold II
Papyrus Leopold II
Papyrus Leopold II is actually the upper part of a larger document, the lower part of which (Papyrus Amherst VII), presently kept in the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York, has been known since 1874. In 1935, Jean Capart found the Brussels papyrus among several souvenirs which king Leopold II had brought back from his travels in Egypt. This unique document relates of an official enquiry during the reign of Ramesses IX (c. 1100 BC) following robberies in the Theban royal necropolis. The text is carefully written in hieratic in four long columns of 19 lines.

Sarcophagus of Bak
Anthropomorphic sarcophagus belonging to Bak. The ground color is yellow, and over it the decorative motives and inscriptions have been done in black. On the lid, the goddess Isis has been drawn with the wings extended, introducing an offering formula and the owner's name. An inscription, consisting of five perpendicular lines, separated from one another by figures of gods, mentions the four Sons of Horus, Anubis, Nut and Shu. The goddess Isis is again shown at the feet.

TT6, the tomb of Neferhotep and his son, Nebnefer .
The two lions, positioned back to back, seem to support the image of the sun rising between two hills, forming the akhet hieroglyphic sign (Gardiner N27), which designates the horizon. It is also a vignette of Chapter 17 of the Book of the Dead. They are called "yesterday" and "tomorrow"; the naming indicates the ageing sun, which sets in the western horizon, so that the young sun can rise in the eastern horizon, symbolising death and rebirth of the star, and thus, by assimilation, life of the deceased being constantly renewed, which is reflected in the ankh sign of life hanging from under the image of the horizon.

A granary model that shows the activities for storing, measuring, and distributing grain.
This model is divided into two levels. On the first level, three standing male figures carry sacks of grain on their shoulders. Nearby, a fourth figure is kneeling slightly forward and holds pails in his hands for measuring and distributing grain.
On the right is a ramp. A squatting scribe, facing right, records the amount of grain.

Canopic Case of Sennedjem
The canopic case, which is in the shape of a mummy case, was used to contain the organs of Sennedjem. Sennedjem was the Chief Artisan of Deir el-Medina village. He was responsible for building and decorating royal tombs.
The canopic case is made of two pieces and was found wrapped in linen. It depicts Sennedjem in the shape of the god of the dead, Osiris, with his arms crossed on his chest.
He wears a long wig falling in two thick plaits, one over each shoulder. A large collar adorns his neck.
The carefully incised hieroglyphic inscriptions, which give his name and title, are an invocation for protection to Hapi, who was responsible for guarding the lungs.

Pectoral Worn as Amulet with Green Stone Scarab
A limestone pectoral, that was worn on the chest, shaped like the facade of a naos, or shrine. The pectoral was worn as an amulet.
The face of the pectoral is richly decorated with several scenes executed in relief. In one register, or section, the deceased is kneeling in adoration before the god of the afterlife, Osiris. On the other registers are funerary scenes.
The pectoral has an oval hole in the upper part that holds a large green stone scarab, a color that symbolizes rebirth. The scarab rests on a lotus flower with two uraei, or royal cobras, on each side. The baboon god Thoth and other deities are shown on a large boat in the center of the pectoral. This scene symbolizes the journey of the sun god across the sky, because the scarab represented the sun god at dawn.
The four corners of the pectoral are adorned by scenes of the adoration of several deities. The right-hand edge of the pectoral bears a line of divine determinatives, signs that give a clue to the meaning of words. The left-hand edge is adorned by the Djed, sign of stability, and the Tyet, a protective knot sign.

Frog AMULET
Frogs were used as amulets by the Ancient Egyptians. The Egyptians believed frogs sprang forth from the mud, probably due to the large numbers of baby frogs that must have appeared in the mud each year when the flood waters receded.
Frog statuettes were placed on the mummy to impart the frog's powers of regeneration to the deceased and provide him with water in the afterlife.

Vessel in the shape of a fly
The style of this vessel classifies it as belonging to the so-called Tell el-Jahudiya ware. Its unique shape conveys a realistic image of the insect with its large eyes and a pair of wings. The legs of the fly are rendered rather like hands. The cross-hatching on the rear body of the fly is perhaps merely decorative, but may have some unknown significance.

Large weight in the shape of a bull
Large weight in the shape of a bull
The weight is shaped as a crouching zebu with its legs tucked underneath it and short horns. The body has been delicately modelled, and other notable aspects are the details of the face and the rendering of the neck. On the inside, close to the break, is a rectangular field indicating the weight of 20 deben in a bold golden inlay. This means that this bull is the largest metal weight in animal form known to us.

This extremely elegant ornate ring is decorated with the enthroned figure of a cat goddess, who is possibly to be identified as Bastet. The wide band of the ring has been decorated on either side of the goddess with a succession of lotus buds and flowers. The seated goddess is accompanied by two groups of three miniature cats.

Ivory boat with bird figures
.This sickle-shaped ivory boat has five bird figures on its deck. Four of them are all looking in the same direction and are probably falcons. The last bird in the row has a longer neck and appears to be another type, perhaps a water bird. It is facing the other way but this may be the result of mistaken restoration. This is very probably a royal vessel or a divine bark. We should perhaps look for a connection with the later divine bark of the div...inity Sokar, the so-called henu-bark, whose forecastle is also decorated with a row of birds (falcons or swallows).

date: (late ?) Middle Kingdom (about 2025-1700 BC), Twelfth Dynasty
The tomb is not fully published. For a reconstruction is only the tomb card available. The tomb was found undisturbed. It had two chambers; one in the north (with the body of a woman and a child) and one in the south (with the bodies of a man and a woman). Traces of wood are mentioned. They must belong to a coffin; but it is not stated to which body it belonged.

measurements: the shaft is 4.34 m deep; 1.82 x 2.38 (north chamber), 1.6 x 2.2 m (south chamber) - the roof of each chamber was destroyed

This group of figurines in ivory, which was part of the von Bissing collection and then of the Lunsingh Scheuleer collection, is composed of a herd of seven donkeys. Of miniscule dimensions, they vary from three to four centimetres. The legs of the animals are badly damaged. The figurine depicting the donkey-driver of the herd doesn't exist anymore. It is possible that the objects come from a tomb of the Predynastic Period.
