Frogs were used as amulets by the Ancient Egyptians. The Egyptians believed frogs sprang forth from the mud, probably due to the large numbers of baby frogs that must have appeared in the mud each year when the flood waters receded.
Frog statuettes were placed on the mummy to impart the frog's powers of regeneration to the deceased and provide him with water in the afterlife.
