NECKLACE
This beautiful carnelian necklace is made up of five bead segments joined by small ivory plaques and comes from excavations at el-Riqqeh, a site in Middle Egypt. The red colour, which usually symbolises evil, is here a protection against fatal accidents. This idea is strengthened by the uppermost row of beads which has twenty uraei.
