A gaming disc, one of 45 made of various materials and variously decorated, found in the mastaba of Hemaka, an official of King Den. The scene is in relief and shows dogs chasing and despatching gazelles. The disc is pierced, presumably so that it may spun, allowing the animals to chase round and round. Country of Origin: Egypt. Culture: Ancient Egyptian. Date/Period: 1st dynasty, c. 3100-2890 BC. Place of Origin: Saqqara. Material Size: black steatite inlaid with alabaster.
