Blue glassy frit statuette of Bes
Egypt
Late Period (746-332 BC)
Late Period (746-332 BC)
On this particular statuette the face is typical of the god, but the body is that of a male youth rather than the usual dwarf, while the back of the statue reveals a cloak made from feathers. This cloak is probably a reference to the god Horus of Behdet and in this capacity Bes reflects the magical solar properties of Horus.
